This is all to say that Phantom Abyss falls somewhat short on achieving the goal of offering a challenging parkour adventure in a roguelite package. The whip and phantom gameplay involving other players’ trial and error are unique, but Phantom Abyss Speedrun its clunkiness, difficulty, and disparate progression are worth a pause.

Of course you can also use the thunder whip to run like Usain Bolt and leave him in the dirt, but even with it don't assume you'll never be bothered by him, especially if you try to go for chests.

Phantom Abyss also taps into some roguelike elements with its blessing system, which offers you random power-ups for the run’s duration in exchange for collected treasure. Treasure is found in chests hidden throughout each temple, redeemable at statues between floors that offer one of two presented blessings, adding other strategic decisions to the action.

Cool gimmick in that you see the phantoms of other players as they go through the same traps that you are, however I have played a few temples that are either new or randomly generated and there are just...pelo other phantoms?

The cleverest players will use the phantom runs of failed attempts from other players to their advantage and avoid the missteps and mistakes that led to their doom.

Be warned, you only get one attempt at each temple and failure means you will never see that temple again.
